The Picture depicts all the old buildings in Big Timber and the people going to and from other buildings. Some of the buildings depicted serve very good food when u go there and order to eat. The Hotel has very good food and is a very fancy place to dine in Big Timber. The picture is also showing the main street of Big Timber and some of the people who have things to do at the stores that are on this street. other things that the picture shows are the old pizza place that had some of the best pizza around town.
wow mainstreet. I dont think we really think about it when we are on it. I know that i dont think about what it looks like or what it means to the culture of Big Timber. When we wrote about the cultural survival i dont thnk anyone thought about mainstreet. I know that I didn't. The stores and the place to eat in Big Timber are mostly on main street so those place wouldn't get anywhere if people didnt go to them. So they are important because like for me it is just part of my day to do something on that street. It is like the Freeze people go to the certain stores for things they need or to talk or just to get something for their paretns. lol
I agree wiht what Donald said. how the pictures remians us of the old pizza place and how there was great pizza there. we dont really have a plave to get great pizza anymore. ya sure the are place but it takes a while and the kids in grade school or high school cant go and get any because it will take to long. I know that when i was in grade school that i really like going there, adn looked foward to it. You were also cooler if you went out to lunch. I have a little sister and when she goes out to lunch she doesnt really have somewhere to go. Sometimes things that are part of our culture get lost or go away like the pizza place but just like other cultural things it stays around because of the stories people say form go there.
Main Street in Big Timber. This is a place that most people in our town take for granted, but it holds some of the oldest buildings in our town and is a huge part of our culture and history. Almost everyone drives down this street and I usually have to drive down it daily without even thinking about it. The old buildings give it a unique feel and many cities and towns in the United States don’t even have a “Main Street” anymore. Our town is lucky that any shopping that we need to do is all centered in one place and that we still have the small town feel. All towns used to have this feature, yet now it is a rarity. Main Street keeps our culture alive and keeps history within our town.
I agree with Lizz when she talked about how some parts of our culture get lost yet other parts stay because of the stories about them. It is interesting that even though Prospector’s has gone away, it is still a part of our town and when I first saw this picture, I didn’t even notice that it was Prospectors instead of the Chinese Place. I am still not used to the fact that I can’t get pizza there, even though it has been like that for a while. This is an example of how the memory of the place will be there forever, no matter what it gets changed into. The parts of Main Street may change, but it still doesn’t change the memories associated with it.
As far as cultural places go, I think that 'Main Street' is overlooked. Just the fact that it is known as main street shows its cultural significance, as it is actually called 'McLeod Street'. It holds a great deal of memories within the ancient buildings. People drive through it more often then probably any other street in town, except maybe First. I know I drive on it every single day I go to town. I would have never thought of calling main street a place of cultural significance, but when it is suggested to me, like it was by this picture, I can see all the reasons it is.
I agree with Katie that this street is taken for granted as far as a place of cultural significance. It has tons of history and meaning in it, and though it is overlooked, it can be easily thought of as a place with great cultural significance. Most people do drive on this street, and don't even think about all the memories and history that they are driving right over. It's a very interesting thing to ponder.
Ahh Mainstreet Big timber. Even at my age I am reminded of so many things when I look at this picture. I believe in most towns their "mainstreet," is also very culturally significant. Small town businesses line the streets and almost everyone calls you by your first name. I love how it's an older picture and that the pizza place in in the photo, I miss it there so much, good friends, happy memories, and great food.
it is fairly important to the town and the buildings are quite old there are at least three that i know of that still have access to the chinese tunnels that were built way back when those have been here for basically ever so the main street is quite important to the town
Main street has a HUGE cultural signifigance to Big Timber, not only are there old buildings there, but its close to the actualy original place where business has taken place in our town since its birth. Businesses may come and go, buildings may get repainted, and toredown, but the actual street will never change. Mainstreet is also a place that almost everyone can relate to, I haven't heard of a town without a main drag.
Personally I don't think that Main street is really all that great or that fancy, but there's definately a lot of memories for a lot of people on it. Many of the people who live here are old and have been around since the street only had a few buildings and nothing all that amazing on it. Most of the buildings have been re-done or rebuilt and some are completely new. I happen to work at one of the newer-ish buildings, Martin Theatre. Everyone can relate to main street though because every town in every state has some form of main street or some area of town that's been there forever and that everyone remembers.
I agree with pretty much everyone because all of our ideas seeem to be close to the same with this picture. Most people believe that due to it's old buildings, history, and constant use by the people of Big Timber, it is a place of "cultural significance." I, however, have lived here my entire life and though I do believe that this town would be useless without main street, I don't see why it would be any different from any other place in town simply because of it's age and history. This whole town's old and everything here has history so if we're basing significance off of history and age than I think that this entire town is culturally significant and that everyone here shares it's history.
Main Street. It is one of the places that contains a lot of history and culture in our town. I never do think about the culture and history when I am on the sidewalk. I usually think about where I need to go and what I need to do. I think we all take this street for granted. Everything that goes on on that street is something important in the history of Big Timber. The sheep drives that use to go up and down the street are no longer happening, because the world is changing dramaticly. We move sheep by trucks now, we no longer drive them up the to where we want them. The sheep drives are one of the most historical things that happen on main street. I think that everyone has forgot about the drives. But, Main street is a very historical place, in my eyes at least.
This picture shows all the old buildings before they changed. the old farmecy cold drugs before it turned into the pamida farmecy. Like prospectors pizza before a coffie shop and now a chinese food place. and been franklins before a copy shop. Its really good for some things to stay the same instead of changing. but its a good thing that things do change ill finish this later miss.
IN reply to Brandon, Big Timber would be useless without a mainstreet, its the heart of big timber, and everyone does share its history, we are making history right now.
I pretty much agree with everyone. Main street is one of the most important places in Big Timber, I think that it is because so many things happen on main street. Main street is also a historical place and coultureral place.
McCloud street Big Timber is a street that we drive by almost everyday and never think about its cultural imprtance. It changes constantly and has some of the oldest building that we have in Big Timber. This is an older picture seeing that the Prospector is still a running business. One of the great things about this street is that it has almost everything to offer on either side of it. One of the perks of living in a small town.
Its a good that things do change to make the place alittle different and to attrackt other people to our little town to make it grow. Main street is the booming place when this town was boarn. like everyone was their not just for work to get stuff done and go to the rail road to get on to go some other place. The old post ofice used to be their but now its like an antuqie store or some really weird thing.
McLeod street is the place where people go almost every day in Big Timber. it is a cultural place to us because we buy supplies there, we meet friends there, or we get smoothies and food there. Our town parades always go down McLeod street too. it is very sacred to our community of Big Timber. McLeod street also has the oldest buildings in our community. It's almost like a museum to walk through town and see the old buildings.
I agree with Brandon with that main street isnt all that fancy or great but thats what i like about a small town. Its not perfect, it has flaws and thats a great thing. I also agree that every town has a main street and it reflects the town. Main street has and will always be a cultural significance to the little town of Big Timber Montana.
This picture reminds me of when i was younger and the great times me and my friends had on mcleod street. I think of all the great things that happens down this street homecoming parades, holloween trick-or-treating, and parade of lights. Mcleod street is very special to our town and will always be, just think about the different centuries that have walked that street.
I agree with what katie said on how most people take main street for granted. It does hold much of our towns history and noone takes the time to stop and think about it. I haven't even taken the time to stop and think about how old the buildings are and how much history they hold. Maybe I'll start to think about it more.
Main Street of Big Timber, MT. This is a place that that many people see as just another part of town. It is a place that holds our shops, our original buildings, our history. Our town may not be very big, but we are old and full of knowledge. I don't take the time to stop and smell the air or even take time to enjoy the beauty of town. Living in a small rural area is something that we all take for granted, even me. I know that there may not always be a place like Big Timber; small, quaint, and historic, yet there will always be those people who want to preserve the towns and the cultures.
I agree with Melanie that it is overlooked. That we take what we have for granted. It is less of an enjoyment anymore and more of a necessity to get from place to place and not notice that surroundings of the town, people, and the culture. I also agree with Katie that we take it for granted. It makes me want to spend more time learning about the town the people, and the people who preserve it and tell the stories
I'm with lizz and donny I miss the pizza place it was plain and simple the best this was definitely part of big timber and the culture the name and everything it was big timber but there are also many other things on main street that are the same way the timber and grand all of which have something to do with the culture of big timber and the professions that have been done or still are done around here as well as just being here forever
