Our first lady represent the bride well, somewhat of a hero, she is typical of the qualities of the hero-bride, quiet, stands behind her husband, and overall avoids the public media. However the other two are "helper-maidens. Mrs. Clinton basically did her husbands job and aided him most of his presidency while under extreme media frenzy, all in the end to not gaining much back from the whole experience. Then Finally Mrs. Palin who also aided a man in a canidacy, resulting in failure, however bringing her some fame, but it was for the most part negative. So I suppose these women could somewhat be catagorized as heroines.
I think that Michelle Obama can be categorized as the 'Heroine as a Wife' type. She helps her husband, who would be, in this case, the 'hero', and does a lot of behind the scenes work. She also does upfront work, though, which makes her a little bit different from the typical Heroine as a wife. Hilary Clinton seems like more of a Helper-Maiden. Although she was married to Bill Clinton, she mostly just helped him out, did a lot of the work, and didn't get much of the glory. Also, she was betrayed by her husband, which follows the helper-maiden pattern. Sarah Palin is more of a Hero-Impersonator. She tried to do what the heroes did, and in the end, ended up failing. That is what I think each of these woman would be considered, if they were to be considered heroines, at all.
I agree with Ashley B. about the first two, but I disagree about the third. I don't think that Mrs. Palin would be considered a helper-maiden, but as I said before, a Hero-Impersonator, because she mostly tried to do what the heroes did. Besides that, though, I agree with what Ashley B. said.
I think with Michell Obama she plays the wife role for her husband. Which makes her the wife helper. Now with Hilary Clinton she used to play that same role like Mrs. Obama but when she tried to run for Presidency that all changed. Clinton became more of a impersonator heroin. She wanted to out shine what her husband did and become the first woman president. With Sara Palin i consider her a impersonator also because she like clinton ran for president or vice president and neither of them were successful but still made a change in some way.
I also agree with what Melanie had stated with Hilary Clinton being a helper maiden because when president Clinton was in office she did help him in alot of ways. Also she did not recieve some of the glory she could have gotten and just faded into the background. Then it turns out he was cheating on her and for some reason still stayed with him. So i do agree with Melanie
Like I said about the heroes last week, it mostly just depends on what you thinkg a hero is. I think that at certain times we are all heroes or a Heroine. I thik that Michelle Obama is a Heroine as a Wife because she is there for her husband and supports him all the time. I agree with what mel said abput Hilary Clinton being more of Helper-Maiden, beacsue she helps when she can. but like I said I think anyone can be a hero at certain times.
I really liked what mel had to say. I used somethings she said in my post to. I think sometimes it is hard to call someone a hero or not. Like there are people now a days that you would say are heros, but they maynot be doing or acting the way heros did in the past. Because I feel that there are heros in now day times. It just depends on how you feel, and what you think a hero has to do or be like.
I think that Michell Obama is a mother/wife type of heroine. That Hilary Clinton is a helper maiden, and Sarah Palin is a helper maiden too. Michell supports her husband and is there when he and their children need her, she has given up her own dreams for her family and that is why i think her to be a mother/wife heroine. I belive Hilary to be a helper maiden because she is usally on the sidelines helping when necessary, but not the center of attention. I believe Sara palin to be a helper too because she has yet to be the heroine of her own story, she has had to stand on the sidelines of American waiting for the public to declare wither she is worthy or not for an appionted office. These women to me are all heroines, some are just trying to find their paths.
I agree with Ashley B. They are all trying to do something and while Michell Obama may be the only one to be considered the motherly heroine the others are helper maidens, always on the sideline trying to get in the game.
It all depends on how you look at things and how you see them. If you don't really know who these people are you couldn't really compare them to heroines. If you knew these people and you have seen them on the news and heard about them a lot then you can compare them. I personally don't really know that much about these three ladies, so I really don't know what to say about them. I would gues that Mrs. Obama would be a Wife, Mrs. Clinton would be a Helper Maiden, and Mrs. Palin would be a Helper Maiden as well.
They all have husbands that was a presedant and they helped their husbands do what ever they need. Hillary clinton became the secratary of state and out did her male compitition. The last girl she ran for vice president but failed.
Although I don't view these women as heroines, they could meet some of the qualities that other people hold for heroines. Michele Obama fits the wife of hero. She stays loyal to her husband and stands behind him in everything that he does. She is quiet and dignified and fits the feminine stereotype. Hillary Clinton started out as a helper-maiden while her husband was in office. She helped him in making his decisions, yet stayed in the background. Now, she is trying to be a hero impersonator and is trying to gain fame in becoming a president. She imitates the hero actions of running for presidency, since that is typically a male quality. Sarah Palin is also a hero impersonator because she made herself who she is now. She didn't depend on anyone else to get her famous and did it all on her own. Her actions were more masculine because she didn't stand back and watch things happen, she was doing her best to make things happen.
I agree with what Lizz said about how it just depends on a person’s view of a heroine to determine who is or isn’t a hero. All of these women could be heroines in someone’s eyes and it just depends on each person’s viewpoints. All of these women help when they can, but they are all unique in their actions. Some, like Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton are more bold, while Michele Obama just stays behind her husband and supports him and her kids.
